Jeremy Olson Context:
Jeremy Olson, an artist based in Brooklyn, New York , is interested in geometry and simultaneous perspective. Much like canonical works of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, Olson look at portraits in different manner; the intricate ways in which he chooses to scramble the geometric pieces that make up the sitter's face, make for a fun time. The viewer must intently figure which pieces go where to make sense of the portrait as a whole.
Aside from his interest in geometry, Olson , also plays with traditional painterly portrait styles by using a hyperreal approach. By including off of these elements [ geometry, traditional and hyperreal portraiture], the artist breaks down the face into a spectrum of beauty that simultaneously makes for violent yet charming visual.

Influences Cubism
Cubism was one of the most influntial styles of the twetieth century. it is generally agreed to have begun around 1907 with Picasso's celebrated psinting Demoiselles D Avignon which inclued elements of cubism style. The name 'cubism' sems to have derived from a comment made by the critic Louis Vauxcelles who, on seeing soome of Georges Braque's paintings exhibited in paris in 1908, described them as reducing everything to goemetric outlines, to cubes'.
Cubism is an early 20th-century avant-garde art movement that revolutionized European painting and sculpture, and inspired rlated movements in music, literature and architecture. Cubism has been considered the most influential art movement of the 20th century

What can I see?
The gene of art is portraiture. I can see the way the artist geometry on this piece of work and how he mixed up to make the face look unidentifiable for viewers to see also the artist has made his portrait with natural oils and not taken a picture. The artist has used a dark background and used lighter colours to make the person face and the mixed up pieces.
Feeling & Mood
This portrait reminds me of a puzzle and how its takes a long time to make up , this makes me feels in a good mood and that I could have help trying to do the puzzle. My opinion on this work is that its a beautiful piece and how its not a person its a oil/paint image of a person with there face mixed up to create a puzzle for the viewer to see if they can put the face back, what makes this image interesting is that the way the artist placed the pieces on the image and how every piece is on the face not around the rest of the top half of the body. Why I picked this piece is because it stood out to me and that it is different from the rest full of colours and more up beat.
Composition
The composition has a round shape. The focal point is the center I look there first because the way the pieces of the face is mixed up giving me a sense of a little kids puzzle piece board. Next, I look at the background because it shows a darker bit of the picture also it the only plain part of the photograph that has nothing on it.
Colour & Mood
The Main Colours used in the piece are the blue for the background, purple for the shirt and pink for the lips. The dominant colour is blue I think the artist used this to make the picture seem more alive and more colourful with the light blue but also the other colours as well. The colours give the mood of a summers day to the work, I think this because of the colour blue and the other colours he used.
Light & Mood
The light is coming from the direction of the top. I know this because the way the artist set out his work and made the top half really light with more light bursting out of it. The highlighted areas are the right side of the head and the top half of the head they have been tonally shaded in very light tone to reflect the light. The dark tones have been used at the bottom and left side of the face they have been used to give the painting weight and depth. The light and tone adds a summers day mood to the work, I think this because of the colours that have been used.
Pattern & Texture
The artist uses a shape pattern on the painting. This adds interest to the piece and makes it look weird and wondering what the persons face really looks like. The artist uses different textures such as darker tones on the painting which look hard and the lighter bits look soft this makes the picture look life like and that you could feel the persons face if it was really like that.
